This song was conceived and written in September 2021 when it was becoming clear a certain medical treatment was about to be rolled out and impressed upon the population - whether New Zealanders liked it or not. I felt via all my senses this had been the plan all along. 'No Coercion' is a call to realisation, of what the mandates being rolled out really are, and to this, the onslaught of one-sided news reports and advertising we are being subjected to.

I had both known and heard of several people - including teenagers who had lost their lives just days post receiving this jab. I felt so angry and to put those feelings to song, as therapy. This song is for the families and individuals injured who struggle to have a voice, have felt coerced by threat of job loss or income and access to places - neither of which justifies having a medical treatment, particularly in these days of consent and body autonomy much less against your will.

My feelings of shock and loneliness found solace in the piano. I find the piano a beautiful way to literally feel the emotion pour out the feelings through my palms into the keys. A couple of months prior to this song coming about I acquired a cello, with which I was able to add to this song a rich, deep sound. I am no cellist buy any stretch of the imagination! The addition of cello is also a nod to my dear Dad who passed in November 2021, a dynamic and gifted music and most recently strings teacher. He was an all-round wizard with his skills in life and I've not known anyone like him. I also like how the piano and cello combo asks to be taken seriously.
My wish, is that the plea through this song is taken seriously.
